Let down and hanging around...
This song has a very special place in my heart. A friend (who will not be named to protect his reputation) and I shoplifted some stuff in Rockledge, Florida and although we weren’t technically caught, there was an incident. I’ll leave it at that. We got to leave on our own not in bracelets as the pigs say.
On the ride back home (to Vero Beach) we put on R.E.M. “Eponymous” as they and this album make the perfect driving trip music. And although I’m more an album person, my friend wasn’t. Plus it was the days of CDs so you tended to bring compilations in the car when possible to get more bands and CDs etc.
Anyway, this song came on and I said “Don’t Go Back to Rockledge”, we laughed and it stuck. Whenever I hear this song to this day I think of of those dumb things you do as young unsupervised kids. I still love the song though.
I also think it’s a perfect song that if I owned a cool dive bar I’d play for the patrons as they collected their belongings, gulped their last sips of booze and meandered into the streets. (“Night Train” By GnR would be the last call gets your asses in motion song in case you were curious.)
At any rate I’m using the “Eponymous” version for historical accuracy, fuck my indie cred. Plus, like, my R.E.M. collection is quite impressive not that I have to prove anything. I gots CD singles, imports, album covers and perfect tagging an shit.
That’s just how I roll. What?
